On February 18th four IPC- ABC members Shane Miller, DIVCON; Andy James, NW Steel & Fabrication; Shawn Adam, Sturm Heating 7 Air Conditioning; Kathy Millard, Modern Glass Company; and Suzanne Schmidt, IPC-ABC Staff traveled to Olympia to meet with State Legislators.
While at the Capitol we met with Representative Shea from District 4, Representative McCaslin also from District 4. We headed over to the Senate Office Building to meet with Senator Padden, District 4 and the staff of Senator Dansel, District 7. We were welcomed enthusiastically by our legislators. It was very encouraging and apparent they appreciated our support.
We wrapped up the day with a very special event. Senate Majority Leader Mark Schoesler hosted a reception for ABC members from both the Inland Pacific Chapter of ABC and the Western Washington Chapter of ABC. The House Minority Leader, Representative Kristiansen was also in attendance. Both Senator Schoesler and Representative Kristiansen are business owners and employers. They understand our issues because they deal with them in their own businesses.
The overall theme of the day was the need to support and help to get elected business friendly legislators. The Republican Party is the majority in the Senate and the Democratic Party has control of the House. With a Democratic Governor and the House controlled by Democrats, Washington is not a business or free enterprise friendly State. IPC-ABC will be working with our lobbyist and Western Washington ABC to identify races in the upcoming election year in which we can lend our support. The main goal is to elect a Republican Governor for the first time in decades.
