February 22nd, 2011 is a historic day for the Merit Shop , Free Enterprise and workers’ rights!!ABC’s critical bills, S1006 and S1007 have PASSED the Idaho Legislature, clearing the House of Representatives just moments ago – they now await the Governor’s signature and will become law! S1006 passed the House on a vote of 55 to 14 with 1 excused; S1007 passed the House on a vote of 55 to 15.
S1006 bans any union only Project Labor Agreement (PLA) on any publicly funded project in Idaho, and S1007 makes the use of union job targeting schemes ILLEGAL in the State of Idaho! Both of these bills are critical to prevent the erosion of Idaho’s Right To Work law and to protect Idaho workers and employers from being forced to join a union. Both bills protect taxpayers’ dollars and help maintain a level playing field for all of Idaho’s contractors and workers.
Our sincere thanks to all of the ABC members who contacted Legislators and testified on behalf of these bills. A very special thank you to ABC Idaho lobbyist Jane Wittmeyer and ABC Chapter Attorney, Judd Lees of Williams, Kastner for their tireless work for passage of this historic legislation.
Most of all our thanks go to the bills’ sponsors and champions in the Senate and House, especially Senators Monty Pearce and John Goedde, along with Representatives Henderson, Crane and Roberts who led the floor debate in the House today.
