Idaho and Washington Update - May 5, 2015

In Idaho

The Idaho Legislature adjourned officially on April 11th after a long and arduous debate over a number of issues, the most prominent of which was a Transportation Funding Bill.  Unable to agree the Senate and House finally convened a conference committee which hammered out the final bill.

In Washington State

Last week the Washington Legislature began what could be a 30-day special session.  The primary items on the agenda for the special session are the three budgets for the 2015-2017 biennium—operating budget, transportation budget and capital budget.  After a brief flurry of committee hearings and floor debate most legislators headed for home while only budget negotiators remained in Olympia for the first couple weeks of the special session.

EMPLOYERS TAKE HEED NLRB Ambush Election Rule Effective April 14, 2015

The National Labor Relations Board’s ambush election final rule goes into effect tomorrow, April 14, 2015.* Under the final rule, the amount of time between when a union files a representation petition and an election takes place will be dramatically reduced from the current average of 38 days. The shortened time period for union elections will place a premium on rapid response by employers to union organizing activity.

Idaho Legislative Update – ABC Making Progress on CM/GC Bill . . . Big Battles Remain

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of so many ABC members emailing and calling members of the Idaho House Business Committee, the ABC backed bill, HB 119 passed out of committee by a close vote of 9 to 7.

Hearing Tomorrow on HB 119

Good news!  We now have a firm hearing on HB 119, our proposed bill that would amend Idaho’s CM/GC bill to better protect ALL parties in the construction industry and taxpayers! 

After canceling the hearing last week, House Business Committee Chairman Vito Barbieri decided late yesterday that the hearing will go forward, TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH AT 1:30 pm Mountain Time. Read the rest of entry »

Legislative Alert! Your Action Needed!

Good news! Last week the Idaho House Business Committee voted to formally “print” ABC‘s proposed amendments to Idaho’s CM/GC law as an actual bill.

The bill number is HO 119. It is presently scheduled for a formal hearing on Wednesday February 25th at 1:30 PM before the House Business Committee in the State Capitol. Read the rest of entry »
