CM/GC Issue in Idaho

You might recall that last week the ABC Idaho Government Affairs Committee, along with some members of the CM/GC Task force met in person and via conference call to discuss some proposed changes to the new Idaho CM/GC law that ABC will attempt to move forward this session.

For those of you not in attendance we narrowed the list significantly, to just 5 suggested changes on which we could reach a consensus.  I have attached that document for your review (click here).

Last week, as requested by Speaker Bedke, we met with AGC representatives in Boise to discuss their interest in putting some rules around the new law.  In attendance on behalf of AGC were 3 of their lobbyists including Pat Sullivan and Phil Reberger, their Executive Director Wayne Hammond and three of their GC members representing ESI, McAlvain and Star Corporation.

After about 1 ½ hours of discussion it was apparent they have no genuine interest in our changes.  However they did say they would be happy to comment on any proposal we bring forward.  Subsequently Jane touched bases with Speaker Bedke who indicated we should move forward with a bill.

So, we are now in the process of gearing up to introduce a bill.

It would be very helpful if you could touch bases with any legislators with whom you have a relationship and let them know a bill is coming.  Please let us know who you know well enough to ask to sponsor the bill – for instance, John Young has indicated he knows Kathleen Sims very well and has already briefed her on this issue.  I know others of you have as well, so please respond to this email or give me a call so that our lobbyist Jane Wittmeyer can reach out to them.
