We are excited to announce Lorie Stephenson Owner/President CAMTEK, Inc., Don Hiller, Vice President Market Equipment, Inc. and Terri White, Vice President Puterbaugh Construction have been elected to the Committee.

OSHA extends compliance date for crane operator certification requirements

OSHA has issued a final rule extending the deadline for crane operator certification requirements in the Cranes and Derricks in Construction final rule published Aug. 9, 2010 by three years, to Nov. 10, 2017. The rule also extends by three years the employer's responsibility to ensure that crane operators are competent to operate a crane safely. The final rule becomes effective Nov. 9, 2014. During the three-year period, OSHA will address operator qualification requirements for the cranes standards including the role of operator certification. The final cranes and derricks rule required crane operators on construction sites to meet one of four qualification/certification options by Nov. 10, 2014. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced the preliminary Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety violations for fiscal year 2014.

Last year, several U.S. Departments issued their final ruling on wellness programs within the workplace to comply with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This ruling became effective with the ACA on January 1, 2014. It supports employers and workplaces that promote employee health and wellness programs.

Proposed Workers' Compensation Rates for 2015

The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is proposing an average 1.8 percent rate increase for 2015 workers’ compensation premiums.
The proposed premium increase will help cover wage and disability benefits, as well as medical costs for treatment of injuries and illnesses. It will also allow L&I to continue to build reserves to protect against the unexpected.

OSHA Extends Comment Period on I2P2 Tracking Proposed Rule

OSHA has extended the comment period on the proposed rule to improve tracking of
workplace injuries and illnesses
to Oct. 14, 2014. The proposal would amend the recordkeeping regulation to add requirements for the electronic submission of injury and illness information.
