More than 400 ABC members went to Capitol Hill June 23-26 for ABC's 2015 Legislative Conference. The week was kicked off with the first annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit, which featured a lively discussion about supplier diversity within the construction industry. The event also included a Legislative Breakfast, which featured a panel discussion on key issues facing the industry and a day on the Hill where ABC members had the chance to meet with their representatives in the House and the Senate.

Rich Wells, President of Ginno Construction and IPC-ABC 2015 Chairman of the Board attended ABC’s Legislative Conference representing both Washington and Idaho. Rich lives in Washington while owning a business based in Idaho. Also in attendance was Randy Schmitz, Attorney with Gjording & Fouser PLLC an IPC-ABC member from the Boise area. Rich and Randy along with Greg Rodriguez, IPC-ABC Interim President/CEO and staff member Suzanne Schmidt participate in the full schedule of meetings while at Leg Con.

We cover a lot of ground on Capitol Hill both literally and figuratively. Rich’s sons, Ryan and Kyle, joined us for the day on Capitol Hill.  It was great to have the next generation of ABC members represented by Ryan and Kyle Wells. We met with the Legislative Assistants for Rep. Dan Newhouse, WA-4th (R), Rep. Raul Laborer, ID-1st (R), Rep. Mike Simpson, ID (R), and Senator Larry Crapo, ID (R).

We had the honor and pleasure of meeting with Congresswoman, Cathy McMorris Rogers and presenting her with the ABC Eagle Award. Congresswoman McMorris-Rogers (WA) earned this award by voting for and supporting issues important to ABC members.  The Congresswoman was very inviting and engaging. She welcomed the opportunity to discuss current issues especially with Ryan and Kyle Wells.

We also met with Senator Jim Risch (ID). As always Senator Risch was excited to see ABC members. He is well versed with our issues and is a strong advocate of the Merit Shop on Capitol Hill. Senator Risch was presented with an ABC Eagle Award as well.
